SHOW CAR GLAZE
Show Car Glaze™ is a professional grade mirror glaze by Maguire's™ that aims to give cars a shine that will stand out of the crowd at a car show. A show car isn't really a show car, it seems, if a passerby can't adjust his feathered hair in the reflection on the glaze of the car's hood. Creating a wet, freshly painted, mirrored appearance is essential for show car competitors and it has become increasingly important for ordinary car enthusiasts. Professionals have used various waxes and polishes for decades to protect the sheen of a newly painted classic car or the clear coat of a brand new car. Show Car Glaze is an oil-based polish that covers paint imperfections, dulling and swirling of a car's paint job, and brings out the mirrored effect of a fresh coat of paint. The Show Car Glaze is Maguire's #7 and is recommended for use following a coat of wax. Other polishes are available that offer similar results, including some that claim to optical brighteners that create a greater mirrored effect. All polishes that are meant to be used following an auto wax recommend that wax residue be completely removed before applying a mirroring polish. Wax can build up, as will any polish, in sealed edges and other areas of the paint if it is not thoroughly cleaned. Show Car Glaze, and other professional grade polishes, produces the brightest effects on clear coat finishes, protecting the shine of a car that already shines to begin with. On older paint jobs, or car coat makeovers, Meguiar's makes a version of Show Car Glaze, #80, that has de-oxidizing and cleaning elements that work best on cars stored outdoors or driven in harsher elements. Dirt and minor rust, along with natural paint imperfections caused by time and elements, can minimize the luster of even new paint jobs. Often, show car sheen isn't necessary during all times of year, and car show season demands quick and easy results to make older paint jobs look new again. Many professionals and car enthusiasts prefer polishes that can be applied by hand. Show Car Glaze can be applied by hand, with an orbital buffer, or using a dual action polisher. Either way, the polish is oil-based and needs to be completely buffed to avoid smearing and swirling. By hand, microfiber towels are recommended with Show Car Glaze to use in even rubbing strokes thoroughly covering every inch of the car's paint. This technique can be very time consuming, and multiple towels may be needed to completely remove the polish residue. As Show Car Glaze is made up mainly of oil, it does not dry. Its oily finish allows it to produce the mirrored finish, and give it the look of fresh paint. Thus, swirling and unevenness will show up brightly if the polish isn't rubbed in thoroughly and evenly. |
